In only a short couple of years the consumerization of the enterprise has brought an influx of mobile devices to organizations everywhere. Many companies that have implemented a mobile device management (MDM) solution to deal with this phenomenon are realizing it is not meeting their organization’s security requirements. Mobile Active Defense (M@D) is uniquely qualified to supplement an existing MDM implementation by providing security flexible enough to meet the most stringent requirements.

M@D is MDM agnostic: use ours or theirs.

M@D’s award winning Mobile Enterprise Compliance & Security (MECS) Server is the industry’s first Unified Threat Management system built specifically for mobile. The MECS is a scalable security platform combining everything needed to secure a mobile ecosystem: MDM, advanced mobile firewall, strong access control (PKI), content filtering, mobile intrusion protection and encrypted containerization.

Its modular architecture is so flexible that organizations can choose configurations that make sense for their security policy and mobile network. Customers who have not implemented MDM can utilize M@D’s fully integrated enhanced MDM package. Or M@D’s MECS can make securing your current MDM solution simple.

For example, the MECS’ built in PKI and advanced mobile firewall can work in parallel with your current Mobile Device Management solution. This configuration automates the certificate authentication and VPN functionality of devices providing the same level of security and access control as any computer on the corporate network. Additionally, users cannot remove M@D’s security.

As a result of the consumerization of the enterprise, employees are bringing their own mobile devices to the workplace in organizations everywhere.

Companies are struggling to keep pace with this bring your own device (“BYOD”) phenomenon and strike a balance between organization usage policies and employee personal privacy concerns. Mobile Active Defense (M@D) is uniquely qualified to support and secure any BYOD implementation.

Secure and Wipe Corporate Confidential Data without interfering with Personal Privacy

M@D’s award winning Mobile Enterprise Compliance & Security (MECS) Server architecture is well suited for a BYOD deployment as it is flexible enough to secure as much or as little as needed. Our customers have identified these three areas of concern around BYOD:

Filtering of Corporate Data Only: MECS allows for a Split VPN configuration in which will pass only corporate traffic over corporate network.

Containerization: M@D allows for the complete separation of corporate and personal data on an employee owned device.

Ability to wipe corporate data: M@D provides partial wipe to destroy corporate data or quarantine to preserve forensic evidence without interfering with personal information.

Legal concerns: M@D BYOD customers receive 2 hours of free BYOD policy consultation in addition to a free 1 hour BYOD user awareness program.

The BYOD Mobile Security Spectrum: A Taxonomy

Winn Schwartau, noted and published Cyber Security Expert discusses and outlines the BYOD conundrum, that just about every private, government and military organization is asking itself today about the consumerization of IT by mobile devices of myriad flavors. The BYOD conundrum however, may be a mis-phrasing as it may not be an “either or” binary question. This paper will functionally’ taxonimize’ the security spectrum of BYOD and options available to enterprises today.

Mark Gibbs, addresses some serious networking issues concerning Apple and it’s recent patent dispute loss to VirnetX. “Apple’s solution to this loss is that future versions of iOS (6.1 and later) will only establish a VPN if needed rather than always requiring one…..” Mr. Gibbs in his usual wisdom recommends that rather than slicing and dicing the topic, readers should read the most recent white paper MAD released. In Mark’s words: “Bottom line: Enterprises lose a feature that has been very handy and will have to rethink their call home strategy.”
